My Paper Pumpkin - August Alternatives

I finally had a chance to open My Paper Pumpkin kit for August. Can I just say - LOVE IT!

Since we moved to California, I ride my bike all of the time. (Of course I have to have biking clothes so I look the part of a serious bike rider - so I have had plenty of shopping therapy since I moved here too. I don't think my husband quite understands the need for the right attire, but.....)

This month's Paper Pumpkin Kit has a bike stamp in it. I can tell you that I will be using this stamp a LOT! It couldn't be more perfect! I also love the thanks so much banner stamp! For the samples I did today, (which by the way, took about 10 minutes total), I used only supplies that came in the kit. For this one, you don't even need extra adhesive!

I can think of about a hundred things I could have added if I wanted to "dress up" these cards just a bit, too. I decided for today, though, that I would just give you ideas using ONLY the supplies that come in the kit.

After finishing all four cards, I had four of the crushed curry strips left. I liked having two colors of ink in this kit so that I could change the color of my images on some of the cards.

Rosey Inspiration!!

I started my morning by running my son to school. When I pulled back into the driveway, I noticed that my roses needed tending. I took some clippers out and started pruning. When I got to one of the last bushes, this is what I found.

This beautiful pale yellow rose with pink tipped edges took my breath away. The picture doesn't really do it justice. In the morning sun, it practically glowed. 

I decided to see if I could use my stamps to create something similar to the beauty in my front yard.

Here is the card I came up with.

I love two step stamping sets!  I love the detail and depth that is created when you stamp over the top of the base image to create the details. The Stippled Blossoms stamp set is perfect for this! I used So saffron ink for my base. I "stamped off" (which means I stamped the base on scrap paper to remove some of the ink) before I stamped the base onto my project. This gave a very pale yellow background to my flowers. For the details, I inked the detail stamp with Blushing Bride Ink and "stamped off" before stamping onto my project. This gave the edges of my petals a pale pink blush just like the rose that inspired this creation.

I wanted the main image to stand out just a bit, so not only did I cut it out and pop it up a bit, but I also embossed the detail layer using Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder. I had the embossing powder ready to use immediately. This allowed me to emboss right over the Blushing Bride Ink without having to use versamark. The ink was still damp enough to hold the embossing powder in place while I heated it.

The two roses on the base of the card were stamped directly onto the Whisper White Card Stock,  and to add the leaves, I masked my images (covered them with an image I had cut out). This makes it appear that the leaves are under the roses. I did cut the leaves out for the main image and popped two of them up with stampin' dimensionals just to give the card a little more depth and interest.

A Very Washi Christmas!

I was in a Christmas mood, but also wanted to play with my new washi tape. I gathered some of my fun new supplies from the Holiday Catalog and started to create.

I used two texture folders on this card. I placed the whisper white card stock into the  Pretty Print Texture Folder about half way and ran it through the Big Shot. Next, I took the Square Lattice Texture Folder and placed it along the top right edge of the Whisper White Cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot a second time. This gave me two different textures for my background.

I used the Season of Style Washi Tape to make various sections on the front of my card.

I have always liked the Christmas stamp in the For the Birds Stamp Set. It seemed like the perfect image to put in the lower right corner of this card.

Oh, and don't forget the beautiful Frosted Finishes Embellishments! They are absolutely beautiful! Pictures just don't do these beauties justice!!

My Paper Pumpkin - Remix!

Stampin' Up! - Undefined - carve your own stamps!!

At our Annual Convention this year, Stampin' Up! announced a new product line. It is called Undefined.

The Undefined Line allows you to design and carve your own stamps. Can't draw?  That is okay! You can also trace an image or photograph, transfer that onto the rubber and carve around it. It is a whole new way to create!

The kit itself comes with several pieces of carvable rubber (hmmm - not sure that carvable is actually a word....), wood blocks, and the tools you need to do the carving. There is also a "refill" kit that contains more rubber pieces and wood blocks.

Keep in mind as you are carving that the pieces you leave behind are the ones that will actually stamp. Those that you carve away will be the blank spaces. It is really opposite of the way that we normally think when we draw.

I finally attempted my first stamp. Honestly, the hardest part of the process for me was deciding what to make! I eventually settled on a "signature" stamp for the back of my cards.

Here is the final outcome - maybe not too exciting, but not too bad for my first attempt!

Stampin' Up! - Serene Silhouettes Card

This card is one I created. I am out of samples from my daughters. I hope you enjoyed our guest artists over the past few days! We may see more work from them in the future, but until then, I will again be posting my own work. Here is a big shout out for my creative daughters!!  Thank you both for your project contributions!!

For today's card, I used the Serene Silhouettes Stamp Set. To create depth on this card, I stamped the image first with Soft Sky on Whisper White Card stock. I then masked the bottom of the image to create a border at the base. I moved the stamp down some from the first images and stamped with Island Indigo. To get the lighter outline behind the Soft Sky images, I stamped with Versamark Ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder. After allowing the embossed images to cool for a moment, I sponged the entire surface of the Whisper White Card Stock with soft sky ink. The embossing powder resisted the ink, creating a sort of "halo" behind the original image.

It was fun playing with this technique. Each card you make will look just a bit different. It is always exciting to see what the finished images will look like! Try using different colors for this technique. the various color combinations can change the whole look and feel of the card.

Another of my daughters has come to my rescue by making me a card to post while I am away from my studio. My second daughter, Hailee, designed this card.

It uses the Feel Goods stamp set. I love the color combinations. The black card base really makes this card pop. Hailee used Pear Pizzazz for the background of the card. The saying was stamped with Coastal Cabana ink, and she added a shot of this color using the ruffled stretch ribbon and one of the In Color Boutique Details. I love the extra sparkle she added using the Silver Glimmer Paper along with the rhinestones. Beautiful job, Hailee!

Stampin' Up! - Wedding Card

Just a couple more days and I will be back home and posting my own projects again, but I am thankful for the adorable cards that my daughter has been making for me to post!

This one uses the Love and Laughter Stamp Set.

She also used the beautiful new Very Vintage Designer Buttons. I love the way she once again used the Positively Chevron stamp for the background. I wouldn't have thought to use that stamp on a wedding card, but I love the way this turned out!

The dress was stamped with versamark ink and then clear embossed. She then sponged smoky slate ink over the top. The embossing powder resisted the ink so the image shows through.

Here is another card created by my daughter, Leah. I really like her combination of colors, and of course the bling!!

She used the Road to Happiness stamp set and the Yippee-Skippee stamp set along with the Positively Chevron background stamp. The sparkling silver hearts were created using heat and stick powder with our silver glitter. She used the Candy Dots Brad Bases with the rhinestones rather than the candy dots for a little added bling - and of course who can resist the Coastal Cabana Ruffled Ribbon?!
